Financial Foundations
 

Financial Foundations works with community residents of all ages as they make lasting positive differences in their financial lives. In order to help individuals and families achieve and sustain financial growth and security, this program promotes savings, provides a variety of financial education options and offers asset-building opportunities.

Located in the southwest side of the Brookside Building, Financial Foundations is a collaborative program of the John H. Boner Community Center and the Community Choice Federal Credit Union. Since 1998, money management education opportunities have been provided to our neighbors of the near Eastside. Not only does this program help participants achieve their dreams of owning their own homes or businesses, but it also helps the participants acquire higher education.

 

Financial Foundation offers money management courses and workshops which are free to individuals who live within the John H. Boner Community Center catchment area. Each course is offered at multiple times, including evenings and weekends.

Individual Development Account (IDA)
Similar to a savings account, Individual Development Accounts are held at the Community Choice Federal Credit Union. These accounts recieve a match of 3 to 1, which means that every dollar a participant saves, the program adds three additional dollars to their account. To obtain an IDA account, an individual must be interested in home ownership, starting or expanding a business and or continuing their education. The individual must also meet household income guidelines as follows:

Making Your Money Work
Over the course of four sessions, individuals identify and learn how to achieve their financial goals, develop a personal spending plan and how to use credit wisely.

Individuals identify and reach financial goals by developing spending plans and learning how to track their expenses.

Women and Money
This one-day workshop is designed to teach women to understand everyday money management in a supportive environment. During the course, women will learn how to construct a monthly budget and savings system, along with information about insurance and the coverage that best fits her needs.

Money Wi$e
The Money Wi$e workshop focuses on basic financial skills and goal-achievement plans. This workshop concentrates on the needs of young people and includes hands-on activities. Over the course of two sessions, youths ages 11-18 learn to identify their existing and potential sources of income, track personal expenses and the benefits of savings.

Jr. Investors
Jr. Investors welcomes young adults ages 11-18 who live within the Boner Center's catchment area. Upon completion of Money Wi$e workshop, individuals are eligible to become an official member of Jr. Investors. As members, they will be able to open savings accounts at the Community Choice Federal Credit Union, and attend special events and seminars.
