In
2001, volunteers pledged 6,364 hours of their time and talents
in confidence of the NESCO Mission of cleaner and safer Near
Eastside neighborhoods.

In 2001, NESCO volunteers achieved
these landmarks:

Removed
4.4 million pounds of trash; |
• |
Reduced
crime on the Near Eastside by 28 percent since 1998; |
• |
28 neighbors
received repairs to keep them in their homes; |
• |
475 people
received information about home ownership training; |
• |
Eight
families were helped to purchase homes, two families helped to
refinance homes with one family able to avert foreclosure and remain
in the neighborhood; |
• |
Raised
$16,190 in operating funds; |
• |
1,521
people were referred to Christmas help, heat assistance, employment,
housing, poor relief, food pantries, senior services and community
policing; |
• |
Organized
a civic group that has applied for Main Street status to revitalize
East 10th Street. |
